Andy Phelps received his Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from Missouri State in 2006 and then spent two years living in China where he taught English and learned how to ride a motorcycle. He moved to Colorado Springs in 2012 and received his Master’s in Social Work from Newman University. He has over 10 years of experience working with people experiencing homelessness and is now Mayor Suthers’ point person on the issue of homelessness in the Pikes Peak Region as the City’s Homelessness Prevention and Response Coordinator.

In this role, he evaluates best practices, provides project management assistance to community non-profits, acts as a liaison between community organizations and City leadership, and keeps elected officials informed on issues related to homelessness. Under the leadership of Mayor John Suthers, his goal is that homelessness in Colorado Springs be rare, brief, and non-recurring. Andy’s other interests are pottery, gardening, his two basset hounds, and public policy.
