Biographical Information

Shannon Johnson completed her Masters of Social Work and Masters of Public Policy degrees at the University of Michigan in 2008 and then worked as a substance use and mental health counselor for several years before completing her Ph.D. in social work at the University of Texas at Austin in 2016. She was then an Assistant Professor at the Catholic University of America’s National Catholic School of Social Service from Fall of 2016 through Spring of 2020. Dr. Johnson’s research focuses on issues related to trauma, bereavement, and spirituality. She has a particular interest in the development of spiritually oriented and culturally responsive interventions for survivors of traumatic loss. Dr. Johnson is a passionate social work educator who has instructed social work practice classes along with coursework on ethics in social work practice, social welfare policies and services, research methods, social work theories, and death and dying.
