Biographical Information

Rodney Gehrett is an Assistant Teaching Professor and Internship Coordinator in the College of Public Service at UCCS. He is an accomplished law enforcement and military leader, with more than three decades of leadership experience during his time in both career fields.

Rodney started his law enforcement career as a deputy with the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office in 1995 and retired in 2018. During his career, he completed numerous assignments in each bureau of the organization. In addition to his assignments at the deputy level, he completed supervisory and managerial assignments as Training Director, Standards and Technologies Manager, Public Information Officer, Administrative Services Commander, Support Operations Commander, and Patrol Division Commander.

In addition to his service with the Sheriff’s Office, Rodney has an extensive military background. He completed 36 years of service as US Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal Diver and a US Army Reserve Infantry Officer and Psychological Operations Officer. He is a veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan.

He earned a Bachelor of Science in Sociology from Colorado State University-Pueblo, and a dual Master of Criminal Justice and Public Administration (MCJ/MPA) from UCCS. Additionally, he is a graduate of the Penn State Justice and Safety Institute, Police Executive Development (POLEX) program, and he is a graduate of the 273rd Session of the FBI National Academy.
